"The Columbia River Gorge has a special place in any Portlander's heart. A few years ago, the community mourned together as a merciless fire ravaged thousands of acres. My heart and mind were on our beloved gorge and I painted this to celebrate its beauty.
Ever since I've lived here, whenever we drive through the gorge I have my phone pressed against the windows, taking pictures around just about every turn. The steep, stacked ridges of tree-lined hills, getting lighter and lighter into the distance, are almost like torn strips of paper layered on top of one another, leading down into the powerful, expansive river below. It's serene - a view I will never tire seeing."
