"Taken in August, this photo felt like a message about the wild fires. While beautiful, their power is overwhelming and uncontrollable. All it took in this case was for somebody to not dispose of their cigarette properly. That simple act can cause a smoke plume seen to be see from space. I tend to focus on the positive parts of nature for photography but this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass."
